Vision Quest

Greetings,

Thank you for your interest in the Vision Quest!

We, Tim Wigley and Yan Golding from Khula Dhamma Community, are guiding Vision Quests within the lovely wild Skilderkrantz Nature Reserve in the foothills of the Kouga Mountain Range.

Below we have provided a brief outline of the Vision Quest journey.

The contemporary Vision Quest has emerged from the recognition that our modern Western culture is quite bereft of the notion and practice of a soulful initiation that guides us back to our core values and knowledge and onward towards emotional maturity. Although the Vision Quest is largely considered to be from the Native American culture, further exploration reveals that indeed all indigenous, nature-based cultures have some form of initiation or rite of passage that leads them towards mature adulthood and a deeper understanding of their Life's purpose.

As individuals, we each have a distinctive contribution to make towards healing ourselves and the planet. Never before has it been more pertinent that we recognise this potential and give ourselves the space to ceremoniously journey inwardly and outwardly into the unexplored wilderness to unveil and awaken our most sacred and unique raison d'etre.

The call to find meaning in and of our life can often come as a result of our life situation: moving into adulthood, parenthood or elderhood; ending a job or a relationship; moving home; losing a loved one; a terminal diagnosis; a depression; disillusionment; loss of religious faith- whatever the reason may be, you will know in the core of your being that the time has come to leave behind what no longer serves you.

To heed the call to Quest, however, demands a steep price. You will die to your outgrown, created image of yourself. You will let go all that is familiar and comfortable to you so you may retrieve- with new eyes- only that which truly enriches a life that serves your soul-potential and others around you.

*********************************************************************

Once you have committed yourself to doing a Vision Quest we will send you our handbook that will help guide you through the preparation as well as giving an overview of the process.

Two main aspects of the preparation will be to write down your intention for your Quest and to go on a day-hike, fasting in Nature- A Medicine Walk.

The actual Vision Quest is divided into three parts Severance (4 days preparing in base-camp), Threshold (4 days solo-time fasting in wilderness) and Re-integration (2 days story-telling in base-camp).

**************************************************************

We will be facilitating our next Vision Quest from November 8 - 19 this year.
We are taking a group of 8 people – women and men over 18 years.
We will be camping for 11 days in the reserve – 4 of those days you will be in solo time fasting.

Costs: Vision Quest cost is R1 500.
A non-refundable (unless we cancel) deposit of R500 secures your booking.
Balance of R1 000 payable by September 1, 2009.

The R1 500 is the actual outlay/out-of-pocket expenses calculated per person.
If you wish to make a donation towards your guides' time and expertise you may do so at the end of the Vision Quest.

If you would like to find out more about our Vision Quests and/or specifically this one, then please email or phone us as soon as possible.
